Colin Henry Wilson, was born on June 26, 1931, in Leicester, England and died on December 5, 2013, after contracting pneumonia following a stroke that he suffered as a complication from spinal surgery.
He was a philosopher, critic, and novelist who wrote on the subjects of crime, and the occult. His philosophy he called “new existentialism” or “phenomenological existentialism” which he detailed in his 1966 book Introduction to the New Existentialism and updated in 1983 as The New Existentialism
Colin Wilson is best known for The Outsider, published in 1956 when he was 24 years old. He was a prolific author, however, and wrote many pieces of note since them including many short stories the Evening News in the 60s and in various anthologies including the 1969 Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos, followed up by Lovecraftian novels The Philosopher’s Stone and Mind Parasites and in the ’80s he produced the Spider World series of fantasy novels.
A student of the occult, Wilson also wrote a great deal on the subject of mysticism and the paranormal as well as alternative spirituality. Some of these are listed below:
