The word Mica comes from the Latin word mica meaning “crumb” or “grain” or from the Latin micare meaning “to shine”.
Mica is a family of minerals having similar properties: All micas are phyllosilicate (from the Greek for leaf, referring to their flat, sheet-like nature) minerals that can be easily split into flexible sheets of the mineral.
Micas are often found inside other stones and give them a sparkly appearance.
Muscovite is the most common mica and when people say mica, this is usually the mineral they are referring to.
Mica is associated with the element Air and the planet Mercury.
